Up little past 6. Skype with Vivian. Came in to ask me what August was saying “cookie jar song”. He did a happy dance when I figured it out. Oatmeal and mango for breakfast. He wanted to see a video of bees making honey, so Carly pulled one up the iPad, and Vivian watched it through Skype. Cherie called at some point, and they skyped with her as well. When he wanted to nurse, he made a joke of not saying please after “want to nurse”, saying it then telling himself to say please.
We went out to go to the store and to the park. August decided he wanted to go straight to the park, so Carly went to the pink building and did the shopping, while he and I went to the playground. On the way to the elevator he was crawling and said he was a ghost. I asked why he was a crawling ghost and he said “because it is fun.”
At the playground we saw the swing swinging on its own and talked to the ghost. He climbed up on the shaky bridge and talked about the pattern of colors on them, then we played the foot stuck game. While pretending to get his foot stuck, his other foot slipped through as well. He was left dangling, holding on to the two railings. I had to go help him, but he didn’t get upset. He kept talking about it, saying “you were swinging…you were swinging like a monkey.” He did the tube slide thing with my help, then played with the swing. He said something that reminded me of the Beatles song “Ob-La-Di” and he liked it, and he said “you can dance to it later.” He played on the teeter totter, and another girl got on the other end and they played together. He wanted to go, but as we started to walk out, he said “You’re going to find your froggy nest.” He went up into the bushes, and played in those for a few minutes. On the way back, he held my hand crossing the street, then walked across the driveway on his own, like he wanted to do last night. Carly caught up to us as we looked into the progress on Pink Burger, the new burger place that was being built.
At home we spent the some time reading a Korean poster, then we went and read the Mother Goose book. On the Elsie Marley one he said it was Tia Cassie, then “Oops, Mama.” On the iPad, he was sending emojis to my mom, and recorded a video and sent it without us knowing. In on the paper, he was writing ‘LMNOP’, then ‘bit’ and ‘bite’. He explained the silent E the way I do it for him: “the E comes along and says hey. You need to say I…”
Derek was bringing Rosie over to the park, so I took August back down to the playground while Carly made spaghetti sauce. I played with August a bit, and got the stick out of the backpack when he wanted to write in the dirt, but mainly I talked to Derek, and August played well on his own – he acted silly and walked shapes on the ground, and walked backwards. He went over and hung on the climbing wall on his own. He then went over to the dinosaur foot prints and wanted to play in them. Rosie came over and played there a bit, then Derek left with her. August laughed at Derek and gave him a high five before he left. August kept playing in the footprints, and counted leaves and rocks as he dropped them in. He had wanted to splash in puddles again, but there was barely any water in them. I talked about going home and eating some spaghetti. August said “it’s going to be messy…you doesn’t like that…the messy.”
He ate some spaghetti and then went to sleep, from 12:50 to 2:05. They nursed for a long time, then he was typing. I was impressed that he’s figured out the shift key and can do that all on his own. He said “You have the parentheses down.” Carly and I wanted to go for a walk, and I asked August if he wanted the backpack or stroller. He said “I agree to stroller.” Before we left, he was pretending to sit by the “iggly wiggly” worms before we left. “I’m just sitting by the iggly wiggly worm.” I asked “Is that from Puffin Rock?” He replied “No. it’s not.” Which is a joke, because it is.
We headed out for a walk at 3. We walked up the stream and went to the park where he had split his chin open. Carly went on the swings, and August got on the rocking toys for awhile. They then went and dug a hole in the sand and made mountains that August kept smashing. I took over for awhile. Before we left, he spent a few minutes being a kitty cat in the bushes and hiding. We walked home, and as we got close to home he was spitting water on the ground from the stroller. He did it a couple times in the building and I told him to stop. He said “I spit water out of my trunk…I’m done spitting water.”
At home we read the Korean poster, then Snoozers, then part of New Kid on the Block. We ended up singing “If you’re happy and you know it” and he wanted more and more verses. One we did was ‘scrunch your neck’ and he really liked that. I changed him, and he was pretending to be an elephant. He was then writing and doing art on the smart board thing while we listened to Amanda Palmer’s ‘Piano is Evil’. Next, we read the Korean elephant book, and August did much of the reading. Carly remembered the slime, and I got it out and they played with that for a long time. Carly gave him a bath, and there was lots of laughing. He came out, and actually wanted to get back in. Going to bed was pretty straightforward, and he was asleep by 8:30.
