Tuesday: Mama is sick

Carly was still sick, so called in a for a sub today. It was a rainy day, so I wasn’t planning on taking August out for a long time. Instead, we made it out if he house three times to give Carly some time to rest.

But in the morning I made banana bread. No veggies, although I added some raisins. August had fun with the bowl and spatula and tried licking the bowl. Unfortunately, he broke the bowl in two when he stumbled and put his weight on it.

For our first outing, we went to Home Plus to do some shopping. August said hi to the lizard, and pointed out the turtle and said ‘turtle’ on his own. After paying, we went up and walked around the book store for a few minutes.

One of the things we bought was a scale. So I can now tell you August is 23.6 pounds.

Carly made lentil soup and August took a nap. He ate some lentil soup for lunch, and in the afternoon we headed out again.

First, we went to the English Science Education Center. They have aquariums with water bugs, beetles, etc. August really liked those. We went up to the 4th floor and through the ‘Deep Space Walk’ (a room with lights) and started to look around the geology displays, but was then informed they weren’t open. So we left and headed to the art museum.

We went downstairs and August made straight for the Alice in Wonderland box thing. We then went to the block printing exhibit in the community gallery and a woman gave us a like-cheese cracker. We sat on a bench and ate that.

We then went up to the play room. We lasted there for quite awhile. He didn’t really go farther in, but he did well with the other kids, and did a lot of hopping on the mats.

We then went up to the restaurant on top (Cellan) and got a Gorgonzola pizza to surprise Carly with. We then heard home.

About 5:30 I took him out one last time. We went to the book/lounge area at the movie theater. Alas, the big stuffed animals are gone. And in the children’s room the books are getting trashed and kids were allowed to run wild in there. But August still had a lot of fun looking at books and pushing chairs around. His main activity was probably practicing the stairs – climbing the first flight on his own and needing help to get back down.

I left at 7 to head over to a meeting with 3 other people who would like to form a writer’s group. That went well and lasted until 9. I had walked over, but took a taxi back to Brownstone with Sarah M.

August and Carly were both asleep when I got home. He apparently went to sleep around 8.

New words: eagle (looking at picture of a book in a book), Seuss, bowl (may have recorded this before), turtle, lentils, fan got me
