Sitting practice

August has been wanting to crawl for the last 4+ months. So we kind of expected that to be his next big accomplishment. But then I’m reading the book What’s Going On in There? And am reminded that sitting generally comes first.

He’s been siting quite well in his high chair thing, but we haven’t focused on giving him time to really work on sitting on his own. So, I did, and here’s how he is doing:

He was doing pretty well without the boppy pillow before the video, but I needed both my hands to make sure he didn’t fall over; that made it difficult to film. So, bobby pillow with the assist.

High chair

On Tuesday we went out to Korean BBQ for dinner. This was a big event for August as they gave him his first high chair to sit in. He was fascinated and spent at least the next 20 minutes staring at everything and everyone, mouth agape. He only got a bit fussy when he realized everyone but him was eating:

Forward movement!

August decided to celebrate his six month mark by sort of starting to move forward with his crawling, as opposed to just backwards or in a circle. There was more to it than this, but I just caught the last one on video as he was getting tired out. In hindsight, it probably would have looked more impressive shot from the side:

Carrots!

Food #3 (after squash and apple sauce) is carrots. Carly cooked him up a batch today. He was very intrigued when he saw her mushing them up:

I thought he would take a little while to adjust to the new taste after eating apple sauce all week, but except for some spitting noises at the beginning, he had no problem eating it:

Playing with Logan

Yesterday we had dinner of at our friends’ Jill and Derek’s place. They made great pulled pork sandwiches and chocolate cake. But we’re focusing on August here, so the highlights for him were seeing Logan (who just turned nine months old) for the first time in a couple months and getting to play in a bouncy chair for the first time:

We just ordered a bouncy chair for August (one that hangs from a doorway). So we will see how he likes it.

New books!

Yesterday, we stopped at What the Book in Itaewon. Carly and I don’t really buy paper books anymore, but we of course wanted to shop for August. We ended up getting him Hippos Go Beserk and a Fox in Socks board book. My parents bought him a book as well that he’ll get for his six month present. As you can tell, he is happy about his new books:
