Friday: Finding our groove

August and I are getting used to it being just the two of us. We had a good day around the house, went for a walk over by the power plant, and in the afternoon we walked to APIS to drop him off with Carly so I could go to physical therapy.

Around the house:

He ate some food:

Got a kick out of watching the washing machine:

Ate a little banana for the first time:

And turned a container in recycling into a new toy:

Also, we tried to respond to Glecy’s request for a photo of August with a strainer on his head. We will have to settle for an amusing video and a photo of it on his face, as he got upset when I placed it on his head:

On our walk, we saw all sorts of cool things:

I don’t know why this statue is at the plant:

And we Skyped with my parents while sitting on a park bench:

Thursday: Dad and son, day 1

With my parents leaving yesterday, today was my first full day as stay-at-home dad. We did all sorts of things, like try sweet potato (that Carly cooked the night before):

And take a bath:

And practice his sitting while watching the mobile:

And work on vocalizing. ‘Ba’ seemed to be the sound of the day:

All of that was before his first nap. After his nap, we went for a little shopping trip to buy a few things at Daiso. Here we are, ready to set out:

Along the way, we had a snack and rest in the park:

And here is August on his new playmat and playing with his new tambourine:

Wednesday: saying goodbye

Wednesday was a sad day for August in two regards. First, he had to get his final hepatitis shot. Here are his bandage and his sort-of-still-sad face after getting the shot:

Then, we spent a final couple hours with grandma and grandpa. Going out for waffles:

Walking:

And eating lunch in the park:

Then we said our goodbyes and walked them to the airport bus:

August turns 200 days old tomorrow. We flew to the United States on the day he turned 100 days old. That means he has lived with one set of grandparents or another for basically half of his short life. It will quieter and more boring around here without them.

Tuesday: Changgyeonggung Palace and Changdeokgung Palace

On Tuesday we went to the major palace complex, which also includes the intriguingly named ‘Secret Garden’. We had a lot of fun. Some of the highlights:

Being silly in in the palace:

Running into this guy for the third time in Seoul (more on him in another post):

Taking a tour of the Secret Garden:

Playing with the sundial

Walking with grandma and grandpa in the palace:

And riding with them on the bus:

And I couldn’t resist including this photo of him chewing on his hat string at lunch:

Monday: Namsan Tower, Myeong-dong, Namdaemun Market, and Namdaemun

On Monday we had a grand adventure that started by taking the cable car up to Namsan Tower:

While there, I changed August on the nicest changing table I’ve found in Seoul. It even had a little pillow for him (which I noticed and put under his head after shooting this video of him watching the mobile):

We had fun on and around the tower:

And looking at the trees on the way back down:

Between Myeong-dong and Namdaemun Market we found August’s favorite fountain so far:

In the market we found the greatest tshirt ever. I’ve been wanting a broken English shirt for August, and here it is:

After the market, we stopped at Starbucks and then walked to Namdaemun (the old south gate to the city, and National Treasure #1 in Korea). On the way, we filmed another amazing walking video, where August shows off his dexterity with a bottle cap:

On the ride home August entertained himself and everyone else on the bus:
